Apple and Berry Crumble


  • For the filling:
  • 700g granny smith apples
  • 500g berries of your choice
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 lemon (juice of)
  • For the topping:
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 pinch salt


  • Pre-heat oven to 180c fan-forced.
  • Peel apples and then cut into 1.5cm cubes.
  • Place apples and berries in a bowl and sprinkle with flour, sugar, and cinnamon.
  • Pour lemon juice over apple mixture and toss.
  • Spread out evenly in a 1L baking tray.
  • Place all topping ingredients into a bowl. Mix until clumps form like wet sand.
  • Spread over the apple and berry mixture, crumbling with your fingers.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, custard, yoghurt, or coconut yoghurt.

Gluten-Free Adaptation:

  • Switch flour for Gluten Free variety
  • Switch oats for quinoa flakes

Low Lactose Adaptation:

  • Use coconut or lactose-free yoghurt or ice cream
