Steamed Rice

Ingredients

  • uncooked rice (See notes for Brown Rice Recipe)
  • water (2 parts water to every one part rice)

Method

  • In a large, microwave safe bowl, measure out required portion dry rice.
  • Next, add twice as much water than rice to the bowl.
  • Place bowl of rice in the microwave & cook for specified time depending on amount of uncooked rice used: ½ cup rice - 10 minutes; 1 cup rice - 15 minutes; 1 ½ cups rice, 20 minutes
  • Once done, check to see if rice is cooked through & all water is absorbed.
  • Cook for a further 4-6mins if needed and add a 1/4 cup extra water if all dry.
  • Once cooked, fluff rice up with a fork & let sit, covered until needed.

Brown Rice is a favourite in our household due to it’s extra flavour – we love the nuttiness that brown rice adds to a dish!

  1. Follow the steps as above, but instead add three times as much water than rice to the bowl.
  2. You can adjust the time a little if cooking less/more, but for 1cup of rice, aim for 15mins on high (uncovered) and then another 15mins at medium (50%) power (covered).
  3. Once cooked to your liking, fluff with a fork and let sit covered for 5-10mins if time permits.

FODMAP adaptation:
Keep to a low FODMAP serve (1/2-1 cup cooked).
